|Place：||Room G1, Shingaku-kan, Imadegawa Campus, Doshisha university|
Tariq Jaffer (Associate Professor of Religion, Amherst College)
In this lecture I will discuss several questions concerning the nature, significance, and implications of extraordinary acts in Islamic society. The lecture will focus on the ways that acts of wonder were defined, defended, classified, and interpreted within Islamic culture. It attempts to explain the ways that Muslim theologians and literary critics approached the theme of wonder, and it describes the social forces that shaped their discussions about wonder.
