【Obituary】Passing Away of Prof. Dr. Samir.

Prof. Dr. Samir Abdel Hamid I. Nouh, who served as a member of the Board of CISMOR, passed away on April 30th 2019. Dr. Samir was born in Egypt in 1946 and taught at Cairo University and Imam Muhammad Bin Saud Islamic University. Later he had served as an adjunct Professor at the School of Theology, Doshisha University from 2004 until his retirement in 2017, and has been on the Board of CISMOR since 2011 until his passing away last month. His research was on comparative linguistics and comparative study of cultures. He made great efforts to make mutual understanding between the Islamic world and Japanese culture through his enormous activities of writings and lectures. His contribution to CISMOR has been outstanding, especially the holding of “the International Conference on Values in Religions,” which is co-sponsored by CISMOR and the Center of Oriental Studies of Cairo University and this year will be held for the 8th time; Dr. Samir was preparing this conference from his hospital bed and he will be greatly missed when it is held. We deeply appreciate the contributions of Dr. Samir to CISMOR and express our deep sorrow over his passing away and our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.
