2023/01/31

We will hold a following online workshop. (conducted in Japanese)

Theme: Morocco’s success in the FIFA World Cup Qatar
Its background and meaning: in relation to migration, diaspora and religion

In the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, Morocco finished in fourth place. It was the best and historic result as an Arab and African country. Media not only focused on their success of football strategies but also its cultural side such as the unity of diaspora players and home-grown players. The fact that 14 out of 26 players of “Atlas Lions” were born outside the country was unique compared to other participating countries. This presentation examines the background of the Morocco’s success in this World Cup and its meaning in relation to migration, diaspora, and religion.
