要旨：
The presentation, introduces how 'Myanmar' came to undertake economic and political reforms after 2011 and examines the nature of the country's economy and governance. It helps us to understand why and how 'democracy' is  uniquely adopted in the local context in 'Myanmar' to project a certain international image while in fact the authorities are exploiting such norms as 'democracy' and 'rule of law' to protect their own interests. This presentation includes some of the findings presented in the recently published book International Norms and Local Politics in Myanmar (Routledge, 2022).

2022年6月11日(土)、西川由紀子先生（同志社大学グローバル・スタディーズ研究科教授）によるセミナー“Myanmar: the Current Crisis and the Nature of the State”がオンラインで開催されました。同教授は本セミナーの始めに、2011年以降のミャンマーにおける経済・政治改革についてご説明され、同国の経済と統治のあり方について考察されました。また、ミャンマーのローカルな文脈で民主主義が独自に取り入れられ、一定の国際的イメージを作り出している一方で、軍事政権の利益保護のために、「民主主義」や「法と秩序」などの規範が利用されているという実態についてもご解説いただきました。ご講演後には、活発な質疑応答が行われました。貴重なお話をいただきました西川先生および参加された皆さまに心より御礼を申し上げます。
