Summary:
How to mitigate conflicts and prevent wars in the Middle East holds much significance today not only to peace and security of the region but to the more sustainable development of the globe. The protracted conflicts in Palestine, Afghanistan and Iraq, the on-going constitutional reform processes in Egypt and Lebanon, the question of legitimacy in autocratic regimes in the Middle East, and nuclear impasse of Iran have manifested the fact that it will take some time to come until the real “Arab Spring” could come. Some of the challenges have posed a question of how the Middle East can provide more open space for its citizens’ participation in politics, and socio-economic activities. This conference will cover all these issues to discuss among prominent scholars from Japan, Turkey, Iran and Arab states.
